The campus organizations can provide enormous avenues to the exploration around the Greater Atlanta Area. Compared to Patrick, and his cross country team, I haven't been able to go out of state. But once in a while, I do get chances to visit places off campus, as a member of Georgia Tech Glee Club.
This morning, we performed at Spivey Hall at Clayton State University. Our audience was high school students from the metropolitan area. Our goals was to convince them that 1)singing is fun, and 2)men can be good at singing.
Four miles southeast of the airport, Spivey Hall is not designed to be reached by any means of public transportation. And it is absolutely not within walking distance from the surrounding neighborhood. But if you have a car, your life is good. It took us half an hour to get there from Georgia Tech campus.
The Hall was introduced to be having the best acoustic effects in the south. It is also one of the best performance halls in the country. I was amazed at the degree of elegance the hall possesses when I entered it. The exquisite chandelier is reflected on the floor. The marble stairs led us to the commons, from where we entered the performance hall. The rehearsal lasted for an hour before the concert. The concert was hilarious. Most of the Glee Club repertoire was sung, including the GT Medley that we sang at the homecoming football game. The presence of a student from UGA (sic) made the atmosphere even better.
Walking out of the Spivey Hall after our concert, we were able to explore a little bit of the surrounding area before we left. A lake is found right beside the Hall, with trees planted around it. The sky was blue and clear, and the sun is generously dispersing the last bit of warmness before winter. The cold weather from the previous days was forgotten.
